October Newsletter 2024

Dear Parents,

It is October already and we are looking forward to another very happy and wonderful month together. I hope you and your family are enjoying this beautiful weather and the cozy family time the shorter days bring.

The children are still adjusting to our class routine and all the new experiences.  We are working on sharing with others, and to be kind to one another. They are still quite busy thoroughly exploring the classroom and engaging in lots of fun activities . They enjoy going to the playground, singing, story time, and playing in the different centers.

Reading:
In reading we will be reviewing our Letter Friends: Mr. M, and Mr. T. This month, we will continue to meet Mr. F with his funny feet, Mr. N and his noisy nose, Mr. H and his horrible hair and Miss A and her “Achoo”.

So far the children have been learning all about our letters, being introduced to their sounds and how to trace each letter. We have also been practicing recognizing our names.

Social Studies/Music:
In September, the children were introduced to our classroom. We learned about our class routine procedures, and class rules. We learned and had fun learning about fall and apples. We read fall books and sang songs to help learn about fall. We compared summer and fall, different types of clothing we can wear, and different sports we can play. We had an apple tasting science lesson, and a graph on “What is your favorite color apple to eat?.

This month, our Social Studies unit will include: Christopher Columbus, Fire Safety, Halloween, and Community Helpers. We will learn about Christopher Columbus and the names of his three ships, and for Community Helpers we will be identifying different

objects associated with them. We will learn what to do to stay safe in case of a fire and we will talk about Halloween safety when trick-or-treating.

Dramatic Play:
This month our dramatic play center will be all about Fire Safety. In our center, we have

lot’s of things pertaining to fire safety where the children can play, learn and
have fun.

Art:
In September, we created art projects to go along with back to school, fall, and apples. Some of the art projects are displayed in our classroom and on our bulletin boards in the hallway.

This month, we will continue to create individual and expressive art projects related to Fall, Christopher Columbus, Fire Safety, Halloween, and Community Helpers.

Math and Science:
In the month of September, we explored numbers 1-5. The children are enjoying
identifying the numbers. We introduced and reviewed these numbers through various games and counting activities. Through songs, and books, we learned all about the color RED. We learned about the Circle shape, and things that are round.

In October, we will be learning to sort two objects. Students learn to pair objects based on color, or shape to form groups.

For science in September, we learned how to be scientists. Some of the experiments we completed were: Sink/Float, Apple Tasting, and learned Parts of an Apple.

This month, for science we will explore Farmers Market. We will be learning where our fruits and vegetables grow, why it’s important to eat healthy foods, and will conclude our science unit learning about Parts of a Plant.

This month, the children will be making several delicious snacks to go along with our

social studies themes.
