March Newsletter 2025

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that it is March already and Spring is just around the corner. Many exciting activities are planned for this month in our classroom.

Reading:
So far in reading we have met so many letter friends. In March, we will continue reviewing the letters we have previously learned and meet new letter friends. This month, we continue with Ms. I with her incredible Inventor, Mr. C who is made of
Cotton Candy, and Mr. O who is Obstinate and loves Opposites. We have been playing various games to go along with our letter friends traits to help with letter and sound recognition. We love greeting our letter friends each day and listening
to songs and having fun while learning.

Social Studies:
This month for Internation Week, we will introduce the children to the beautiful country of Italy. We will learn interesting facts, and learn some simple Italian words. In March, the children will be introduced to the season of Spring, and St.
Patrick’s Day. For our Spring unit, we will be learning about what changes we see in Spring. The weather gets warmer, flowers begin to grow, animals come out of hibernation and all the different activities we are able to do in the warmer weather.

For St. Patrick’s Day, the children will learn simple facts and enjoy playing games and dancing to the Irish Jig. When the children come in from outdoor play, they will have a big surprise to discover a little leprechaun left footprints and coins
scattered all over our classroom floor.

Art and Cooking:
In February, we created many fun projects to go along with Presidents’ Day, Valentine’s Day, and Dental Health. This month, we will be making art projects to go along with our Social Studies themes: Spring, The African Elephant, Italy, and
we will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a fun art project. To celebrate Presidents’ week, the children made delicious snacks. For Abraham Lincoln, they made a log cabin with pretzels and cheese. For Valentine’s Day, we made delicious heart shaped waffles that were enjoyed by all the children. For Dental the children will use apple slices, jelly and marshmallows for the teeth to make a dental mouth.

Math and Science:
For math, we will continue to review numerals 6-10. Through hands on activities we will learn to identify, describe, sort, compare and create two-dimensional. (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) shapes. We will include squares, circles, rectangles,
triangles, cones, cubes, sphere, and cylinders. For science, we had fun exploring force and motion. The children learned how
things move by either a push or a pull. For dental health, we did an egg science experiment using different liquids, and learned what happens to our teeth, when we consume sugared drinks, and don’t brush our teeth regularly. We learned how
important it is to take care of our teeth.
For Valentine’s Day, we did a candy heart experiment, using different liquids to see which of the liquids would dissolve the candy hearts the fastest. This month, we will learn about light and shadows. We will explore how light helps us to see in the dark, and the difference between natural and artificial light. We will demonstrate with different objects how light can pass through some objects but not all. In our classroom, we will use flashlight to make different shadows on the walls. Hopefully on a sunny day, we will bring the children outdoors so they can see their own shadows on the ground.
