May 2025 News Letter

Dear Parents,

The end of the year is steadily approaching, and can’t believe we are in May already. We are gearing up for our show and the children are very excited to perform for you. They have been busy practicing daily and are doing a great job. In April, we had a visit from the Easter bunny who left plastic eggs hidden all over our classroom. The children had a great time searching to find the hidden eggs and placing them in their Easter buckets.

I would like to take this opportunity, to thank Mrs. Schwartz, for coming to our classroom to read a book on Passover. After reading the book, Mrs. Schwartz helped the children make Charoset, that is eaten at the the Passover Seder. To make charoset, we used chopped apples, grape juice,  cinnamon and dates. The children enjoyed eating the charoset on a matzo.

Reading:

So far in reading, we have met so many letter friends. In May, we will continue to review the letters we have previously learned and meet

new friends. This month, we will meet Mr. K with his kind kick, Mr. W with his wonderful wink, Mr. Y with his big yawn, and Mr. R with his

ripping rubber bands. The children are identifying their sounds, and look forward each day to greeting our new letter friends.

Social Studies:

During the month of April, the children were introduced to Earth Day, Easter and Passover. This month, we will learn about Safety at Home

and Outside. We will discuss how to stay safe at home by ot touching outlets, never go near a hot stove, never put medicine in your mouth,

and never open the door to strangers. We will discuss safety outside by always holding an adults hand when crossing a street, always

wear a helmet when riding a bike, and never talk to strangers. In May, we will celebrate Mother’s Day and talk about how special Mom/Moms and Grandmothers are, and what we can do to thank them on this special day.

Art and Cooking:

In April, we created art projects to go along with Easter, Earth Day, and Passover. This month, we will be making projects for Mother’s

Day, Piet Mondrian (artist), Dinosaurs, and Safety both at home and Outside.  In April, the children created healthy and yummy snacks for our cooking activities.

This month, we will be whipping more delicious yummy snacks.

Math and Science:

This month, we will continue to work on 2D and 3D shapes. We will practice counting groups of 7 items using number cards. In April, for

science, we learned about Sound, and how we hear different vibrations that travel through the air that can be heard when they reach the ear. We learned which of the 5 senses we use to hear, and we discussed things that are around us that are silent and things that make sounds. We played sound games with different objects, and also incorporated a science experiment by filling water glasses at different levels to hear the different pitch. This month, for science, we will discuss. “Getting to Know our World”, and learn how interesting our world is. We will be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and the four stages. The children will be able to observe the butterfly changes each day in our classroom. This month, we will explore the parts, life cycle, and characteristics of plants. This month, we will do a plant investigation, and for science we will do a bean experiment. For a fun activity, each of the children will be plainting their own flowers.
