​Dear Parents,
​
I want to wish you all a Happy & Healthy New Year! Now that the holidays are behind us, we are ready to start a new year with lots of new and exciting thins to learn and do. Reading: So far in reading, we have met so many letter friends. In January, we will continue to review past letter friends and will be meeting new ones.
This month, we will meet Ms. E who loves to exercise, Mr. L with his lemon lollipops, and Mr. D with his delicious doughnuts. The children have been learning all about our letter friends, being introduced to their sounds, and how to write/trace each letter.

Social Studies/Music: In December, we had fun learning about the holidays Christmas and Hanukkah. We read books, sang songs and learned how each of these holidays are celebrated. The. Children had fun singing and dancing at our School Song Fest. They did a great job and I am so proud of each and everyone of them.

This month, we will continue to learn about winter. We will discuss how we dress for the cold winter months, what activities and sports we can participate in winter, and how the weather changes, and learn what animals hibernate in the winter months.
January brings us to honor Martin Luther King Jr., and learn his message of peace, and what it means to be a good friend. We will learn about the White House, learning about its various rooms, including the presidents oval office where he conducts and works, and other interesting facts.
This month, we will learn facts about George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln. We will learn what currency each of the presidents picture is on, and what number president they were. This month, we will learn all about Farm, and what animals live on the farm. We will discuss what does a farmer do, and different products animals produce. We will sing songs, and read books on: Winter, Martin Luther King Jr., and The White House.
Reading:

This month we will be meeting Mr. P, with his patchy patches, Mr. S with his super socks, and Mr. V with his violet velvet vest. The children have been learning all about our letter friends, being introduced to their sounds, and how to write/trace each letter.

Art/Cooking: In December, we created art projects to go along with Christmas and Hanukkah, and hope you loved your holiday gift your child made especially for you. The children worked very hard to create their lovely gift. For cooking, the children made a banana and strawberry candy cane snack for a delicious Christmas treat, and for Hanukkah they made a menorah with pretzel sticks, grapes, and cheese. This month, we will be doing various art projects to go along with our themes. For cooking, the children will be making hot chocolate, and a banana snowman healthy treat snack.
Math/Science: In January, we will review numbers 1-5 and start learning numbers 6-10. We will practice matching and sorting using these numbers. We will talk about the shape of the month "diamond", and discuss how many sides and points it has, and learn a diamond is made up of two triangles. In December, we started learning about the weather. We conducted numerous science experiments relating to our weather unit. Some of the experiments we did are: Rain Cloud, and learned when clouds absorb too much water the clouds get heavy causing it to rain. We also conducted a Dissolving Candy Cane experiment, and graphed "What is your favorite Weather?. In January, we will continue to learn and explore more about the different types of weather, rain, snow, wind, rainbows, and tornados. This month, we will continue to do various science experiments to go along with our weather unit.
Character Counts: Fairness-We will discuss how to be fair, take turns and learn to share.
Color of the Month: WHITE-Will be celebrated on: Thursday, January 23rd and Friday, January 24th. Please have your child wear something white on these days. Author of the Month: Marc Brown-We will read many of his books.
